Introducing "The Wilson Brothers"

Every year I create a bucket list with the intention that it will help me to break up the routine of going to work and then going home. All work and no play makes Alexia a dull therapist. One of the items on this year's bucket list was for me to write a children's book. I am happy to announce that I am now a children's author! But why stop there? I'm on the road to becoming a bestselling author. That being said, I'm excited to tell you more about my first book!

Learn to Share is the first book in The Wilson Brothers series. In this book, Zane and his younger brother Zion learn to share their favourite toys. Both of the brothers are neurodivergent, but Learn to Share focuses on Zion, who is autistic. My dream for my book is for neurodivergent families to feel seen and heard. There aren't very many books written by Jamaicans with neurodivergent main characters, and I'm on a mission to change that.

I'm really proud of the work I put into making this book. I ensured the characters looked Jamaican. I was very deliberate in making sure the pictures are vibrant and adequately convey what is happening on each page so even children who are not yet reading can be engaged. I also made sure to select a font that is easier for persons with dyslexia to read.

I believe all children can benefit from Learn to Share as sharing is an important skill for socioemotional development. Additionally, as classrooms are becoming more inclusive, this might be a great way for parents to introduce their children to neurodiversity in a safe and caring environment.
